Power Electronics is a technology to convert one or more properties of electric power, such as voltage, current, frequency, phase angle, number of phases, and waveforms, by using power semiconductor devices and/or circuits. It seems to be a unified research area of power engineering (electric machines, electric power system), electronics engineering (semiconductor device, circuit), and control engineering fields.
Currently, Power Electronics is widely applied to electric power systems such as electric power generation and/or transmission systems, industry systems such as electric motors, fans, pumps, blowers, power supplies for information and communication systems, factory automation, transportation systems such as electric trains, pure and hybrid electric vehicles, home appliances, and so on.
