PROFILE DETAILS
I am a selection grade (Grade I) professor
in the Department of Civil Engineering, Chittagong University of Engineering
and Technology (CUET), Bangladesh. I have been working in this department since
1995. I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree from Bangladesh
Institute of Technology BIT, Rajshahi (Now it is RUET) in 1995 and a Masters in
Civil Engineering (in 2001) and a PhD (in 2005) in Structural Engineering from
the Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN), Canada. I was a postdoctoral
fellow at MUN in 2009, then returned to CUET to the Department of Civil
Engineering, CUET. I spent here from 2009-2011, thereafter I moved to Malaysia
UKM (University Kebungsan Malaysia) for my 2nd postdoctoral program where
I stayed more than one year (2011-12) and came back again to CUET. At the UKM,
I supervised 04 PhD students of the Associate Dean of Faculty of Engineering
and Build Environment, UKM.
In 2009, I joined Head of the
Department of Architecture (additional charge), CUET. I served there two more
years. In 2013 I joined Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, CUET. On
that time, I worked jointly with many organizations and universities at home
and abroad (Notable projects were DAAD (German) funded SEANDEE project and
NICEE Netherland-AIT funded projects). I was group leader of some consultancy
projects from 2013-2015.
In 2016, I joined East West
University of Bangladesh as a Chairman of the Dept. of Civil Engineering.,
where I developed newly started Civil Engineering Department. I developed 09 nos
Civil Engineering Laboratories with modern testing equipment and machineries
and also developed classroom teaching learning facilities. I was there from
2016 to 2018. Thereafter, I come back to the CUET again and take charge of the
Head of the Dept. of Disaster Engineering and Management, CUET. I developed
post graduate curriculum of this department.
I became Dean, in the Faculty of Civil Engineering, CUET from 2019 to
2021 and also took additional charge of Director in the Institute of Earthquake
Engineering Research (IEER) (2019-2021). I served as a chairman and member of
different committees such as Combined Admission of CKRUET, upgradation selection
board of 3rd and 4th class employees, etc. I was
Syndicate member of CUET from 2019 to 2022. Currently, I am Director of Bureau
of Research Testing and consultations (BRTC), CUET.
I played active role as a technical
advisor to a number of companies on various projects dealing with developing
solutions to different problems in the area of Civil and Structural Engineering.
These include Inland Container Depot (ICD) project (From Master plan to
construction phase) of AK Khan group, Runway Development of the Shah Amanat
Airport at Chittagong, Feasibility study, Design and construction of Heavy
Cargo Lifting Jetty at Chittagong Port, Vetting and design of different high
rise building and moderate to long span bridges, etc.
My areas of research interest are structural health monitoring, analysis and design of composite structures, fatigue and fracture design of steel and rock, finite element method and so on. Currently, my research focuses on low cost timber concrete composite (TCC) housing for coastal people and retrofitting of existing deteriorated RC structures. I have published more than 63 articles in different journals (27 Journal articles) and conference proceedings (36 conference articles). Citations of my articles are 500+, h-index is 10 and i-index is 12. Few more journal and conference articles are being in process of publication.
